Start Up Procedure

Dixell XR70 Controller Guide

Start Up Procedure

  • Locate the cabinet as previously described and plug the mains lead into the power supply, but do not turn the power on yet.
  • Turn on the power at the outlet for the economy laboratory freezer.
  • After a short start-up procedure, the temperature control will display the internal temperature of the freezer.
  • Allow the freezer to reach its operating temperature and, if possible, operate for at least 8 hours before loading stock.

Dixell XR70 Controller Guide

The economy laboratory freezers use the Dixell XR70 Controller, a microprocessor-based controller designed for medium or low-temperature freezers, featuring relay outputs to control the compressor, fan, and defrost (if applicable).

The Dixell XR70 Controller is a microprocessor-based temperature controller. It manages the compressor, fan, and defrost functions with specific temperature settings and alarm thresholds based on the type of unit.

Factory Set Points

  • Pharmacy Vaccine Refrigerators: The temperature is factory-set to 5°C, with alarms activating at 2°C (low) and 8°C (high).
  • Freezers: The temperature is factory-set at -20°C but is adjustable between -20°C and -30°C, with alarms set to trigger 5°C above and below the set point.
  • Laboratory Refrigerators: The temperature is factory-set to 5°C but is adjustable between +4°C and +10°C, with alarms activating 3°C above and below the set point.

For any of these units, pressing any button will mute the alarm temporarily, but if the issue persists, the alarm will sound again after 15 minutes.

Temperature Logging Min/Max

The digital temperature control allows users to log the maximum and minimum temperatures reached over time. Here’s how to view and reset these values:

  • To see the minimum temperature:

    • Press and release the DOWN key.
    • The display will show “Lo” followed by the minimum temperature recorded.
    • Press the DOWN key again or wait 5 seconds to return to the normal display.
  • To see the maximum temperature:

    • Press and release the UP key.
    • The display will show “Hi” followed by the maximum temperature recorded.
    • Press the UP key again or wait 5 seconds to return to the normal display.
  • To reset the max and min temperatures:

    • While viewing the max or min temperature, press and hold the SET key for 3 seconds until “rSt” appears.
    • The “rSt” message will blink, confirming the reset, and the normal temperature display will return.

This feature provides easy access to the recorded temperature extremes, which can be cleared when needed.

Calibration

This section explains the Calibration process for ensuring accurate temperature control and performance of refrigerators and freezers. Calibration should be performed by a trained technician and involves adjusting sensor offsets.

To access calibration:

  • Press and hold the SET and DECREASE buttons simultaneously. The following parameters can be adjusted:
    • Ot: Sensor Offset in Bottle
    • OE: Return Air Sensor Offset
    • O4: Low Temp Alarm Sensor Offset
    • dP1: Current Temperature of the Bottle Sensor
    • dP2: Current Return Air Temperature
    • dP4: Freeze Protection Alarm

Calibration typically aims for a 5°C setting in refrigerators. A reference sensor is placed to ensure the bottle temperature is at 5°C. The OE parameter is adjusted to match this reference, and then Ot is modified so dP1 (displayed temperature) equals 5°C. This standard procedure is used by Thermoline for accuracy and optimal performance.

Buttons

This section explains the functions of each button on the Dixell XR70 Controller:

  • Set Button: Displays the target set point and is used in programming mode to select parameters or confirm operations. The set point is fixed for all TPR refrigerators.

  • Power Button: Not used.

  • Increase Button: Shows the maximum stored temperature; in programming mode, it browses parameter codes or increases values.

  • Decrease Button: Shows the minimum stored temperature; in programming mode, it browses parameter codes or decreases values.

  • Defrost Button: Not used.

  • Light Button: Not used.

LED Indicators

This explains the LED indicators on the Dixell XR70 Controller:

  • Compressor LED:

    • On: Compressor is running.
    • Flashing: Compressor is off due to door opening.
  • Fan LED:

    • On: Fans are enabled.
    • Flashing: Fans are off due to door opening.
  • Other LEDs (Unused):

    • On and Flashing: Not used.
  • Alarm LED:

    • On: An alarm is occurring.

Alarm Codes

This table lists the On-Screen Alarms for the Dixell XR70 Controller, their causes, and suggested actions:

  • P1: Probe 1 Failure – Call Service.
  • P2: Probe 2 Failure – Call Service.
  • HA: High Alarm (Product Temperature) – The probe in the bottle is above the alarm point.
  • HA2: Possible Probe Fault – Call Service.
  • LA: Low Alarm (Product Temperature) – The probe in the bottle is below the alarm point.
  • LA2: Low Temperature Entering the Cabinet – Possible air blockage in the cabinet.
  • DA: Door Open Alarm – Ensure the door is closed securely.
  • PoF: UP & DOWN Buttons Pressed Simultaneously – Press both buttons until “PoN” appears.
