Pre-Use Procedure

  • Before proceeding, ensure that all inteTDB-1-4E_2rnal and external packaging has been removed from the appliance, including all tape, plastic bags, and foam pieces.
  • Place the appropriate number of blocks into the dry block heater.
  • Take the supplied lead and plug it into the male IEC socket at the rear of the dry block heater. Then, plug the three-pin plug into a 10-amp General Purpose Outlet.
  • Turn the main switch at the back of the unit to 'ON' to power up the dry block heater.

Temperature Controller

Run/Stop

When first turned on, the display will show the current temperature and set temperature (alternating approximately every 2 seconds).
To start temperature control, press the Run/Stop button. This button is also used to start programs and the countdown timer.

Temperature Control

Temperature Setting

The temperature can only be adjusted when the dry block heater is powered on but not running.

  1. Press the blue TEMP/TIMER knob; the temperature value on the LED display will flash.
  2. While flashing, adjust the temperature using the TEMP/TIMER knob.

Time Setting

The time can only be adjusted when the dry block heater is powered on but not running.

  1. Press the blue TEMP/TIMER knob; the time value on the LED display will flash twice.
  2. While flashing, adjust the time using the TEMP/TIMER knob.

Switch Between Fahrenheit and Celsius

To toggle between Fahrenheit and Celsius, press P1 and P2 simultaneously.

Programming

The dry block heater can save up to four programs for temperature and time settings.

  1. Set the desired temperature and time while the unit is not running.
  2. Press and hold one of the program buttons (P1–P4) for about 5 seconds to save the program.
  3. To start a saved program, press the program button and then the Run/Stop button.

Countdown Timer

The dry block heater includes a countdown timer function.

  1. To enter countdown mode, press P1 and P3 simultaneously. A clock icon will appear on the display.
  2. The countdown timer can be used with one of the four preset programs or on its own.
  3. Once the countdown ends, heating will stop unless the user switches it off manually via the Run/Stop button.

External Temperature Sensortwo block dry block heater with external sensor

The external temperature sensor allows the controller to more accurately manage the temperature of the sample or block. Each model includes an external temperature sensor.

To use the sensor:

  1. Plug the sensor into the designated port located on the back of the unit.
  2. Place the sensor in a dummy sample to ensure it reacts similarly to the samples being heated.

The controller will detect the external sensor automatically as soon as it is plugged in.

This setup improves temperature control and ensures more consistent results.

Temperature Calibration

The dry block heater can be calibrated using either the internal temperature sensor (CA01) or an external temperature sensor. For external calibration, you can choose automatic calibration (CA02) or manual calibration (CA03).
Note: CA01 is a manual calibration mode.

Entering Calibration Mode

  1. Press P1 and P4 simultaneously to enter calibration mode.
  2. If the external PT1000 probe is not connected, the internal probe calibration (CA01) will display.
    • With the PT1000 connected, CA02 or CA03 will display.

Automatic Calibration (CA02)

  • With the PT1000 external probe connected, switch between CA02 (automatic) and CA03 (manual) by pressing the blue TEMP/TIME knob.
  • Automatic calibration (CA02) starts from 30°C to 90°C in sequence and does not require a reference thermometer. Press Run/Stop to begin calibration.

Calibration Points

  • The calibration mode includes four set points: 30°C, 50°C, 70°C, and 90°C.
  • In automatic mode (CA02), calibration starts at 30°C and progresses automatically through each step.

Manual Calibration (CA03)

  1. Prepare the Sample:

    • Use a high boiling point sample (e.g., glycerin above 100°C).
    • Place the sample in the block hole and insert a reference thermometer into the same hole.
    • Ensure the thermometer has a precision of ±0.1°C and is fully immersed.
  2. Start the Calibration:

    • Press Run/Stop to start the system in heating mode.
    • After 30 minutes, read the thermometer and adjust the machine temperature using the blue TEMP/TIMER knob to match the thermometer reading.
  3. Save the Calibration:

    • Press Run/Stop to save the value. The system will stop heating.
  4. Repeat for Other Points:

    • Perform this process for all other calibration points (P2, P3, P4).

After completing calibration, restart the dry block heater for the changes to take effect.
