Electrical

The hotplate stirrer requires a 10amp, 230V, 50Hz power supply. Use a dedicated outlet for the hotplate stirrer, and avoid using power boards or extension cords. Each hotplate stirrer is supplied with a standard 3-pin moulded plug for connection to the mains.

Power Supply:

  • The hotplate stirrer comes with a 2.5m removable mains power lead, featuring a three-pin plug and a female IEC plug. Ensure the hotplate stirrer is positioned at a reasonable distance from the power supply.

  • The hotplate stirrer itself has a male IEC socket.

Safety Temperature Setting

Safety Temperature Setting

  • The hotplate stirrer includes a safety (maximum) temperature setting.
  • This setting can be adjusted using the provided screwdriver through the designated hole next to the power on/off switch.
  • While adjusting, the display will show the word SAFE, along with the current safety setting.

Temperature Setting

  1. Adjust the temperature by rotating the temperature setting knob.
  2. The LED will alternate between displaying the target temperature and the current temperature when heating.
  3. Switch the heating on/off by pressing the temperature setting knob.
  4. When powered on, the set temperature from the last operation will be displayed.

Important Notes:

  • Variations may occur between the set temperature and the actual temperature due to:
    • Differences between the hotplate’s centre and outer edge.
    • The properties of the sample and container used.

Residual Heat Warning (HOT)

  • The instrument features a residual heat warning to help prevent burns.
  • If the hotplate temperature exceeds 50°C, the display will flash "HOT" as a safety warning.
  • The instrument will automatically power off once the hotplate temperature drops below 50°C.
  • Note: This function is only active when the power cord is connected. If disconnected, the residual heat warning will not operate.

Stirring Function

  1. Turn stirring on/off by pressing the speed control knob.
  2. Adjust the stirring speed (range: 50–1500 rpm) by rotating the knob.
  3. When powered on, the display will show the stirring speed from the last operation.

External Temperature Sensor

Both models of the hotplate stirrer come equipped with a PT1000 external sensor as a standard feature.

  • When the sensor is connected:

    • The sensor indicator will illuminate.
    • The unit will operate in PT1000 mode, displaying the temperature of the external sensor and the actual measured temperature.
  • Usage Instructions:

    • Insert the external sensor directly into the sample to ensure accurate temperature readings.
    • An optional stand and clamp are available for securing the sensor during operation (as shown in the figure above).

Countdown Timer (THS-185 only)

The THS-185 hotplate stirrer is equipped with a built-in countdown timer as a standard feature.

Maintenance

Cleaning Instructions

  • Clean with a soft cloth and soapy water as needed. Avoid abrasive cleaners or scouring pads, as they may scratch the surface and cause corrosion. Do not use caustic cleaning agents.

  • Electrical Components: Do not expose any electrical parts to moisture.

Cleaning Stainless Steel

Stainless steel is generally resistant to corrosion, but some chemicals and a lack of oxygen can cause rust or pitting. When routine cleaning, avoid deionized water and use water that meets the suggested quality requirements in the water quality section. Use a damp cloth for everyday cleaning, and avoid harsh chemicals.
